Requirements

Education

• Technical-college certificate, trade-test certificate or recognized apprenticeship in Welding, Fabrication, Auto Body Repair, Panel Beating or a related trade. Training in MIG, TIG, arc welding or vehicle-body fabrication will be an advantage. Additional training in coach-body construction, structural alignment or accident repair will be an advantage. Strong practical competence may be considered in place of higher academic qualifications.

Experience/Skills

• Minimum of eight years’ hands-on experience in bus, truck or commercial-vehicle body repair. Demonstrable experience repairing large passenger coaches. Strong competence in welding, fabrication, panel beating, cutting, grinding and structural repairs. Ability to repair body frames, pillars, cross-members, luggage compartments and underbody structures. Experience installing and aligning bus doors, windows, seats, panels and interior fittings. Ability to assess accident damage and determine a safe repair sequence. Ability to take accurate measurements and restore structural alignment. Knowledge of corrosion control, metal preparation and finishing. Ability to interpret drawings, measurements and repair specifications. Ability to supervise junior welders, panel beaters and assistants.

Additional Requirements

• Must complete a practical welding, fabrication or panel-repair assessment. Must understand that structural repairs affect passenger safety and must not be concealed with filler or cosmetic finishing. Must use appropriate materials, welding methods and reinforcement procedures. Must be capable of producing neat, strong and durable repairs. Must observe fire-safety requirements when welding near fuel, LNG, CNG, electrical or interior systems. Must be able to work safely at heights, beneath vehicles and within confined body sections. Must protect windows, wiring, upholstery and vehicle equipment during repairs. Must be willing to work during weekends or extended hours when major accident repairs require it. Must be honest in reporting the extent of damage, materials used and work completed. Must be able to work with mechanics, electricians, air-conditioning technicians and painters.

Responsibilities & Context

• Inspect and assess structural, body and panel damage on company vehicles. Prepare accurate repair recommendations, material requirements and estimated completion times. Repair coach-body frames, pillars, cross-members, side panels, roofs, floors and underbody structures. Carry out welding, cutting, fabrication, grinding and panel-beating work. Repair accident damage and restore the vehicle’s structural alignment. Fabricate replacement brackets, supports, panels and other body components where approved. Repair and align passenger doors, emergency exits and luggage-compartment doors. Install and align employer-supplied or approved vehicle windows and glass components. Repair seats, flooring, interior panels, luggage racks and approved passenger fittings. Inspect for cracks, corrosion, weak welds, water entry and structural deterioration. Remove damaged or corroded material and complete durable repairs. Coordinate with electrical and air-conditioning technicians before cutting or welding near wiring, pipes or control systems. Observe special safety precautions when working on LNG or CNG vehicles. Remove or isolate flammable materials before commencing hot work. Maintain fire extinguishers and other required safety equipment within the work area. Protect upholstery, glass, electronics and other vehicle components during repairs. Conduct final inspection and ensure that repaired doors, windows and structural components operate correctly. Ensure that structural defects are not concealed by filler, paint, interior panels or temporary materials. Maintain accurate job cards showing work completed and materials used. Supervise junior welders, panel beaters and technical assistants. Maintain welding machines, fabrication tools and workshop equipment. Keep the work area clean and remove repair waste safely. Perform other vehicle-body and fabrication duties assigned by management.

Compensation & Other Benefits

• Monthly salary of ₦250,000–₦450,000, based on practical competence and experience. Performance incentives may apply for workmanship quality, timely completion and reduction in repeat repairs.
