The Master Heavy-Duty Bus Mechanic & LNG/CNG Systems Specialist will lead complex mechanical repairs, engine rebuilding, fault diagnosis and maintenance of the company’s diesel, LNG and CNG coaches.rnrnThe successful candidate must be a genuine hands-on technician—not merely a workshop supervisor. The candidate must be able to personally diagnose faults, dismantle and rebuild major components, guide other mechanics and safely repair gas-powered vehicle systems.rnJob Location- Lagos, with occasional travel for breakdowns, inspections and repairs at other company locations.

Requirements

Education

  • OND, technical-college certificate, trade-test certification or recognized apprenticeship in Mechanical Engineering, Automobile Engineering or Heavy-Duty Vehicle Maintenance. Manufacturer training in Weichai, Mercedes-Benz, MAN or other heavy-duty engines will be an advantage. Recognized training in LNG or CNG vehicle systems, gas safety, leak detection or alternative-fuel engines is strongly preferred. Relevant practical experience may be considered in place of higher academic qualifications where the candidate demonstrates exceptional competence.

Experience/Skills

  • Minimum of 10 years’ hands-on experience repairing heavy-duty buses, trucks or commercial vehicles. Proven ability to strip, inspect, measure, rebuild and reinstall complete heavy-duty engines. Strong experience with Weichai, Mercedes-Benz, MAN or similar heavy-duty engines. Practical competence in diesel, LNG and CNG engine diagnosis and repair. Ability to repair transmissions, clutches, differentials, axles, hubs, steering, suspension and air-brake systems. Ability to diagnose cooling, lubrication, intake, exhaust and turbocharger faults. Competence using compression testers, pressure gauges, torque tools, micrometers and other mechanical diagnostic equipment. Ability to interpret mechanical drawings, technical manuals and manufacturer specifications. Experience supervising mechanics and inspecting completed repairs. Ability to prepare accurate job cards, parts requirements and repair reports.

Additional Requirements

  • Must undergo a rigorous practical assessment using an actual heavy-duty vehicle. Must demonstrate genuine competence in both major mechanical repairs and gas-powered vehicle systems. Must understand LNG/CNG storage, gas flow, pressure regulation, injection, leak detection, shutdown and emergency-safety systems. Must observe strict gas-safety procedures and must never improvise unsafe repairs on LNG or CNG components. Must be able to distinguish between mechanical, gas-system, electrical and electronic faults. Must not recommend parts replacement without proper diagnosis. Must be safety-conscious, disciplined and accountable for repair quality. Must be willing to attend breakdowns and emergency repairs when required. Must be capable of training and supervising junior mechanics. Must be willing to work during weekends or extended hours where operationally necessary. Must not conceal defective workmanship, repeat faults or unsafe vehicle conditions.

Responsibilities & Context

  • Personally diagnose and repair major mechanical faults on company buses and related vehicles. Strip, inspect, measure, rebuild and reinstall complete engines. Repair cylinder heads, liners, pistons, crankshafts, bearings, camshafts, valves and timing systems. Diagnose and repair LNG, CNG and diesel fuel-delivery systems. Inspect and safely repair gas valves, regulators, filters, injectors, pressure components, fuel lines and shutdown systems within approved competence. Perform gas-leak testing using approved procedures and equipment. Immediately isolate and report any LNG/CNG vehicle presenting a potential fire, leakage or pressure hazard. Repair transmissions, clutches, propeller shafts, differentials, axles, hubs and driveline components. Diagnose and repair air compressors, brake valves, chambers, lines and other air-brake components. Repair steering, suspension, airbags, shock absorbers, bushes and chassis components. Diagnose overheating, oil-pressure, smoke, power-loss, turbocharger and excessive-fuel-consumption problems. Conduct vehicle inspections before and after major repairs. Carry out post-repair testing and confirm that defects have been properly resolved. Supervise mechanics and technical assistants and inspect their completed work. Prepare accurate job cards showing diagnosed faults, work completed, parts used and further recommendations. Identify the root cause of repeated failures and recommend corrective action. Work with the Mechatronics & Diagnostic Technician on faults involving electronic engine controls. Comply with workshop safety, fire-prevention and environmental procedures. Protect company tools, spare parts, diagnostic equipment and vehicle components. Perform other mechanical and gas-system duties assigned by management.
