The role is responsible for safe and timely departures, revenue protection, fleet utilization, terminal discipline, passenger service, operational manpower deployment and consistent compliance with company procedures.rnrnThe successful candidate must be an experienced transport operator capable of coordinating terminals, drivers, dispatch personnel, customer-service teams, fleet maintenance and other support departments. The position requires strong commercial judgement, firm leadership and the ability to convert available vehicles, personnel and routes into safe, reliable and profitable operations.rnJob Location:rnLagos, with regular travel and operational responsibility across all company terminals, routes and locations.

Requirements

Education

  • Education Bachelor’s degree or HND in Transport Management, Logistics, Business Administration, Operations Management, Engineering or a related discipline. A postgraduate qualification in transport, logistics, business administration or operations management will be an advantage. Membership of a recognized transport, logistics, safety or management professional body will be an advantage. Relevant training in fleet operations, road safety, customer service, business intelligence or operational risk management is desirable. Good knowledge of Microsoft Office applications, booking systems and operational reporting tools is required.

Experience/Skills

  • Minimum of 10 years’ progressive experience in passenger transport, logistics, fleet operations or another large-scale service operation. At least five years’ experience in a senior operations-management or regional leadership position. Demonstrable experience managing multiple terminals, routes, vehicles, drivers and operational personnel. Strong knowledge of intercity passenger-transport operations, dispatch procedures, route planning and terminal management. Practical experience in fleet scheduling, vehicle utilization, trip planning and operational cost control. Ability to analyse route performance, trip profitability, load factors, revenue, fuel consumption and operational expenses. Strong understanding of passenger safety, road transport regulations, vehicle documentation and driver compliance. Experience managing drivers, terminal managers, dispatch officers, loaders, customer-service personnel and other operational teams. Ability to coordinate effectively with fleet maintenance, HR, accounts, audit, IT, customer service and security departments. Strong leadership, decision-making, conflict-resolution and crisis-management skills. Ability to prepare and interpret daily, weekly and monthly operational reports. Experience using transport-management systems, online booking platforms, GPS tracking, telematics, CCTV or related fleet technologies. Strong written and verbal communication skills. Ability to work under pressure and respond decisively to emergencies, breakdowns, delays and service disruptions.

  • Must have a proven record of improving operational discipline, vehicle utilization, passenger service and route profitability. Must be commercially aware and capable of balancing safety, service quality, fleet availability and financial performance. Must be honest, firm and able to enforce company procedures without favoritism. Must demonstrate zero tolerance for ticket fraud, unauthorized cash collection, revenue diversion and unapproved passenger or cargo carriage. Must understand that a vehicle must not be dispatched without the required documents, safety clearance and approved personnel. Must be capable of identifying manpower shortages and working with HR to recruit and retain qualified drivers and operational personnel. Must be willing to travel regularly to terminals and operational locations. Must be available to respond to serious operational incidents outside normal working hours. Must be capable of managing night operations, peak travel periods, weekends and public-holiday operations. Must be customer-focused and able to manage service failures professionally. Must not conceal accidents, breakdowns, revenue losses, staff misconduct or operational irregularities. Must be willing to accept measurable performance targets and management accountability.

Responsibilities & Context

  • Provide overall leadership and direction for the company’s passenger-transport and related cargo operations. Supervise terminal managers, regional operations personnel, dispatch officers, drivers, loaders and other operational staff. Establish and enforce standard operating procedures across all terminals and routes. Prepare daily, weekly and monthly operating plans based on passenger demand, vehicle availability, driver availability and route requirements. Coordinate vehicle allocation and departure schedules to maximize fleet utilization and route profitability. Ensure that all scheduled departures are properly planned, documented and monitored. Ensure that vehicles depart safely, punctually and with accurate passenger and cargo manifests. Prevent the dispatch of vehicles with expired documents, unresolved safety defects, unauthorized drivers or incomplete trip documentation. Ensure that every assigned driver has a valid driving licence, required company authorization, medical fitness and other applicable documentation. Coordinate with Fleet Maintenance to confirm vehicle readiness before dispatch. Ensure that reported mechanical faults are assessed and resolved before vehicles are released for service. Monitor vehicle downtime and work with Fleet Maintenance to return vehicles to service promptly without compromising safety. Monitor terminal and route performance against approved revenue, occupancy, trip and profitability targets. Review passenger demand, load factors and booking patterns and recommend appropriate vehicle and departure adjustments. Evaluate underperforming routes and terminals and present practical corrective-action plans. Identify commercially viable routes, schedules and service opportunities for management consideration. Monitor passenger fares and ensure that only management-approved fares, discounts and promotions are applied. Ensure that all passengers are properly booked and issued valid system-generated tickets before boarding. Prohibit forged tickets, unauthorized manual tickets and unapproved seat allocation. Ensure that cash, POS, transfer and online collections are processed through approved company channels. Prevent drivers, terminal staff or other employees from collecting or retaining unauthorized passenger or cargo payments. Coordinate with Accounts, Audit and IT to investigate booking discrepancies, missing revenue and suspicious transactions. Review daily revenue, booking, manifest and operational exception reports. Ensure that no unauthorized passengers or cargo are picked up or carried after departure. Prevent overloading, unauthorized roadside pickups, unmanifested passengers and prohibited cargo. Ensure that luggage and cargo are properly identified, documented, weighed or measured where applicable and loaded safely. Protect passenger luggage and company cargo from loss, substitution, theft or mishandling. Ensure that approved seating capacity, weight limitations and vehicle-safety requirements are observed. Monitor trips through GPS, telematics, CCTV, dashcams and other approved fleet technologies. Investigate route deviations, excessive stoppages, speeding, unauthorized pickups and interference with monitoring equipment. Ensure that no employee disconnects, obstructs, tampers with or damages company monitoring devices. Coordinate night operations and ensure proper driver fitness, rest, relief and journey-control arrangements. Monitor driver behaviour, punctuality, attendance, safety performance, passenger feedback and vehicle handling. Work with HR to identify recruitment needs and maintain adequate numbers of qualified drivers, co-drivers, terminal staff and dispatch personnel. Recommend training, reassignment, performance improvement or disciplinary action where required. Conduct regular operational meetings with terminal managers and other responsible officers. Establish clear performance targets for terminals, routes, vehicles and operational personnel. Conduct scheduled and unannounced inspections of terminals, vehicles and operating procedures. Ensure that terminals are orderly, safe, customer-friendly and properly supervised. Ensure that terminal cash, ticketing, boarding and dispatch functions are appropriately separated and controlled. Coordinate with Customer Service to resolve passenger complaints, service failures and booking problems promptly. Ensure that delayed, stranded or disrupted passengers receive timely and accurate information. Escalate incidents requiring refunds, compensation, replacement vehicles or management intervention. Ensure that no unauthorized employee admits liability or makes sensitive public statements following an accident or serious incident. Coordinate immediate response to accidents, breakdowns, robberies, security threats and other operational emergencies. Ensure that accidents and incidents are reported to management and relevant authorities without delay. Preserve incident records, photographs, manifests, GPS data, witness information and other relevant evidence. Coordinate alternative transportation or passenger recovery arrangements where approved. Maintain updated emergency-contact and escalation procedures for every operating location. Prepare daily operational summaries and comprehensive weekly and monthly management reports. Report on departures, cancellations, passenger volumes, revenue, occupancy, fuel, delays, breakdowns, complaints, incidents and terminal performance. Recommend improvements in routes, schedules, staffing, technology, vehicles and operating procedures. Perform other transport and operational responsibilities assigned by management.

Compensation & Other Benefits

  • Monthly salary of ₦500,000–₦900,000, subject to experience, competence and demonstrated performance. Performance-linked incentives may apply based on approved operational and financial targets.
